(Have you seen the BW billboard yet? Nathan's photo is on it!)
My son, Nathan, has taught me that people with Down syndrome are more LIKE
the rest of us than they are different. They have feelings, talents and
dreams just like everyone. And they deserve to be accepted and
appreciated for who they are and what they contribute to our
communities. The money raised from the BW helps support the DSAH's programs -- medical and educational outreach, community groups, conferences, respite -- programs which Nathan and his friends participate in and need. The DSAH does not get any federal funding. Our programs are driven on community support.
New this year, Amanda Nagurney, a Nashville Recording Artist, will be entertaining us before and after the Buddy Walk! She is a personal friend of Nathan's -- worth waking up early and driving downtown -- I promise. Join us!
We
will walk, every year, for our child, for us, for our whole family -
for every friend that we have made at the Down Syndrome Association of
Houston - for every one of their beautiful children - and for every new
baby that shows up at our monthly meetings with their proud parents.
We will walk and help to raise awareness so that our children with Down
syndrome, are accepted as a wonderfully normal part of a very diverse
community.
Thank you for visiting this Web site to learn more about the Buddy Walkr. I hope you'll consider joining our Buddy Walkr.
With your support and involvement, our goals of acceptance, inclusion
and empowerment will become a reality!
We will pick up all t-shirts and distribute prior to the walk.
